Museum of Bags and Purses closed from the 5th until the 11th of February

In 2018 the Museum of Bags and Purses will start a special and ambitious project. In collaboration with designers from OPERA Amsterdam, the museum has developed a new and interactive way to present its permanent collection. The initial phase of this redesign project will launch 5 February 2018, when the third floor of the Museum (with the oldest bags from the 16th to 19th centuries) will be given a facelift. In the new layout, visitors will be able to imagine themselves inside a wonderful treasure chamber.

Amended opening times:

  • On Sunday 4 February 2018, the museum closes at 16.00.
  • From Monday, 5 February 2018 to Sunday, 11 February 2018, the museum is closed for renovations to the permanent exhibition space (16th–19th century bag collection).
  • On Friday 27 April 2018, the museum is closed because of Kingsday.

Redesign Museum of Bags and Purses

The redesign will allow the visitor to discover the stories behind the bag; as an everyday item, as an artisan product, as a culturally historic fashion object and as a status symbol. The history of the bag, from everyday item to fashion icon, will be illustrated using moving images and interactive technology.
