The late Alexander McQueen was once termed the ‘hooligan of English fashion’, a title from which he never shied away.

His shows were held in mental institutions, trash depots, and snowstorms. His clothes were equally dramatic and unconventional, often subverting expectations with unexpected details. This can be seen in this bag, where an otherwise traditional shoulder bag uses a safety-pin as ornament. The safety-pin, with all its links with the punk movement of the 1970s, is in many ways an appropriate motif for McQueen, who also used it on scarves, dresses, and as jewellery
