Dutch Design

One of the aims of the Museum of Bags and Purses, is to promote bag designers by giving them the opportunity to display and sell their work in the Museum Shop and the museum’s webshop. Dutch designers distinguish themselves internationally by their characteristic Dutch-style, known as “Dutch Design”. Its distinctive features usually include one or more of the following traits:
– Minimalist
– Experimental
– Innovative
– Unconventional
– Humorous

Hester van Eeghen and the design duo Vlieger & Vandam are the best-known bag designers of Dutch Design. Other Dutch designers whose work can be found in the Museum Shop of the Museum of Bags and Purses are By-lin van Linde van der Poel, Wim Mutsaers, Marck & MO, JANSSEN designed in Holland, Keecie and Marjon Leek.

Hester van Eeghen
Hester van Eeghen is strongly influenced by architecture. She designs bags in geometrical forms, combined with daring colour schemes.

MARCK&MO
The work of fashion designers Edwin Marck en Moon Geerlings of MARCK&MO is leatherware haute couture; more specifically “Made in Holland” meaning high quality clutches, shoulder bags, totes and document cases made of special sorts of leather and in striking forms. Their motto: craftsmanship and custom-made design.

Vlieger & Vandam
The design duo Vlieger & Vandam design bags which are fashionable as well as very original. Their series “Guardian Angel” combines a wry sense of humour – a gun in relief as decoration on a handbag – with fashion and minimalist design.
